Monday, June 13, 2022 - Home is a good place to recover

We expected the morning to be slow. Dave even gave us an extra half-hour to sleep. Randy was the first awake coming downstairs around 9:45. Penny and Katie slept in till almost 11. Evie needed till 5 pm today to recover from her marathon no-sleeping-while-traveling experience. She didn't drink enough water during the flight. (I don't blame her, I'm the same. You never know whether a bathroom will be available.) So she slept most of the day, finally coming downstairs around 4:00, feeling better.

Once the morning people had breakfast (brunch), they dressed for the day. Penny was ready first, so she walked with her Dad and Papa down to the beach and back. She recorded her adventure in her journal.

The adventurers: Dave, Penny, Randy before setting out

When Katie was finished with her tea, she dressed and Penny, Papa, Katie, and Randy made another explore around the neighborhood, walking the beach to Port Blanc and back. Penny recorded this adventure in her journal, too. (With pictures)

We had big apéros on the patio at 4 pm because everyone had such a crazy eating schedule today. It was lovely to sit quietly and enjoy the peace and warmth of the day. Penny worked on her dress-the-mermaid book. And she read Gerald and Piggy books to Grandma and Papa. Who knew she could read!?

Evie laid on the sofa for awhile and then joined us for a bit of food. (She hadn't eaten all day because her tummy hurt.) Once she had some food, she was ready for a small adventure.

Evie (with Papa) closing the driveway gate using the code.

With bathing suits on, the girls headed out with Katie, Randy, and Papa for the tidal pools at the beach. They got to see a well on the walk to the beach.

Penny and Evie discovered and old well.

Evie posing on the way to the beach.

They couldn't do tidal pools because it was high tide and there was almost no beach.

Penny and Evie - See how narrow the beach is?

Penny getting wet.

The beach was busy. You can see that it's high tide.

Evie said, "We didn't actually go swimming, we just walked in the water up to our waists." The beach was pretty busy.  They discovered a seaweed monster.

Penny put her beach treasures in a safe place.

The water was cold, the girls told us.

The seaweed creature.

Evie and Penny memorized the code to the driveway gate and practiced opening and closing the gate. They also took a "swim" in the hot tub to warm up.

Dinner tonight was pasta and salad with Kouign Amann for dessert. I think everyone's tummy will be happy for this meal.

But now everyone is very tired and ready for bed. That's a good thing because tomorrow we hope everyone will feel good so we can go to storm a castle and then go to another beach.
