April 26, 2022 Our leased car - a Peugeot 5008

We leased a Peugeot 5008, a 7-passenger (if you count the 2 jump seats as passenger seats) SUV. It's really lovely, although just barely large enough for 4 large suitcases, 4 backpacks, and my mobility scooter. Seats are very comfortable. It drives really well. But it has a few things that leave us scratching our heads.

First of all, there is not a user manual in the glove box. We were sent a link to download the manual to our phones. Looking up stuff is really hard. Today, Dave finally figured out how to use the cruise control. (Which is only really useful on the toll roads.)

It has a great back up screen and all those safety things like slowing us down as we come up on a car or truck just ahead of us. The back up screen has come in handy when we're trying to park in a space that is too small to fit in. But we're in France. We get points for creativity.

We're mostly in the space, sort of, kind of....

The GPS works great, but we can't turn the radio off. If we turn the radio down to where it's not annoying, then the GPS lady is hard to hear. There's got to be a setting somewhere to fix that.

It does beep if you put on your turn signal and there's a car next to you. And it beeps to tell you to keep both hands on the wheel. And it beeps if the trunk isn't closed tight.

It's a diesel and gets really good gas mileage. We've only filled up once since we got it and we still have a half tank. I mentioned already what the gas prices are here. In case you missed it, we're paying $7.80 a gallon for gas. So it's good that it gets good gas mileage.

Most parking lots require payment. They have a little machine where you choose how long you want to stay, put in coins or a credit card and receive a small ticket that you place in the driver's dash in your car. But you have to enter your car's license plate before choosing time and payment. So having a photo like the one below on your phone is a good idea.

You'll notice that our license plate is red. This indicates it is a rented or leased car. Regular French license plates are white. So we stick out like a sore thumb. But it does make it easier to find our car in the parking lot.
