April 19, 2019: Dave and Judy Hike near Caromb

For this post I will need help from Dave. Janis is under the weather with a cold, Clark and I needed a day off and Dave is always itching to do something interesting. So he and Judy chose a hike not far from here. This 2-hour, 3.6 km hike is not far from our house. I'll let him describe it:

The trail markers were 2 green stripes. You can see how rocky the trail was.

The main idea of the trek was to see this Manoir de la Pré Fantasti - story goes that 2 nephews of the pope who were also cardinals, were found guilty of stealing money from the church in Rome. They hid out in this manor house until the Pope died and then returned to Rome. There are ghost stories told about this place.

Judy and broom plant - they're flowering now

Walking up to the top of the hill (one long up and one long down but tricky walking) with broom in bloom

top of hill Les Coupinnottes had good views of Castle at La Barroux....

...and Mont Ventoux

This is on the way down, Lac du Paty, a reservoir with ...

...a dam, of course. This dam was constructed in 1766 and still is the original dam. It was leading edge for its time and its design is still used today.

Once down and back to the car, Judy and Dave drove to La Barroux to look at the castle and town just under it.
