A quick note about today's adventures. Judy is staying overnight at the hotel at the Toulouse airport because her flight leaves very early tomorrow morning. And our dear friends from England are arriving at the Carcassonne airport this afternoon.
Our sort-of-a-circle route for today. |
So the morning was taken up with chores - changing sheets and cleaning bathrooms kind of stuff. We left late morning for Toulouse and got to the airport easily. Once Judy was checked in we went in search of some lunch, Unfortunately, the only place open was the Relay store - one of those places that sells a bit of everything. And unfortunately, their offering of sandwiches was remarkably bad - soft but chewy "baguette" - kind of like a hot dog bun - with a bit of ham and cheese. Kind of like the food you get in an American quick service store at the gas station. We have been spoiled by the quality of the food - bread in particular - here in France.
We left Judy at her hotel (and forgot to take a photo). Then headed off to find Carcassonne's airport. This proved quite easy and the drive was pleasant and sunny. The airport is small but has separate buildings for arrivals and departures. The departures has one or two gates and a Relay-type store. However, this one offered baked goods that were acceptably French. The arrivals building remains a mystery because it was locked. The waiting area was outside the doors, sitting on concrete walls or pacing under the covered walkway. Quite strange. And again we didn't take a photo.
But Ron, Chris, and Mad arrived on time. We first met in 1970 when Ron & Chris and Mad & Syd were on assignment from England and Dave was a new-hire at IBM Poughkeepsie. Ron and Chris moved into the apartment under ours. We don't see each other often, but when we do, it's like we saw each other yesterday. The car was filled with catching-up chatter all the way back to Le Cazal (about and hour's drive).
We did remember to take a photo on the patio eating aperos. We'll do better on the photos tomorrow.
