Parting ways - June 8, 2024

The mountains have completely disappeared this morning in the dampness of low-hanging fog. I think that's descriptive of how we all feel this morning as Mad, Ron, and Chris are leaving this afternoon. We're not in a hurry as their flight isn't until 3:45 from Carcassonne. After a last breakfast of croissants, we all spent time changing sheets and towels, cleaning bathrooms, and sweeping the floors, ready for the next guests (who don't arrive until Monday, June 10). We ate an early (for us) lunch at noon and were ready to leave Le Cazal by 12:30.

Even without blue sky, the drive is still beautiful as it's mostly across wide valleys with rolling hills filled with maturing grains and growing vines. It's peaceful in its emptiness, but busy at the same time as large round hay bales dot all the hay fields where just a couple days ago they were covered in freshly cut hay.

By 1:30 we're at the airport and, as is usual for small airports, no one was at the departures desk, so we had time for a coffee in the airport coffee shop. Because of Brexit, travel to and from England is now more complicated, requiring stamped passports and customs checks, like US travelers. More time, more lines. Big hugs and then they're gone.

Maybe not the best selfie, but memorable

By 2:45, Dave and I were headed back to Le Cazal, feeling rather empty. We moped around (at least I did) for the rest of the day, working on blog posts, doing a bit of cleaning. No aperos, but Dave did have a glass of wine outside. Thank goodness, Mad, Ron, & Chris kept up their apero habit, even if it was in England.
