Picasso, the Vermillion Coast, and home - May 10, 2024

Today we headed back to Le Cazal, but took a few side trips along the way.  We finished our Barcelona stay by visiting the Picasso museum and we're glad we didn't miss it. Then drove north along the Mediterranean coast until we picked up the "interstate" highway in Narbonne.

The museum was fantastic and very handicapped accessible I was happy to find. As with anything Barcelona, we should have bought our tickets online ahead of our trip, but we were able to get 4 tickets for 9 am and waited patiently at the door for the museum to open.

So many drawings and sketches. The collection is vast and shows Picasso's  progression as an artist. I was particularly fond of this first room where Picasso sketches covered an entire wall.

The museum, in the Gothic City, comprises 5 large 13th-15th century townhouses (t Carrer de Montcada). While the museum presentation is modern with flat walls and no color in the rooms, parts of these 5 buildings show off their original structure.

But now we must head north toward France. By going straight north, we were able to cling to the coastline along the Mediterranean. The views are magnificent.

We ate lunch here:

Our plan was to stop in Collioure for dinner, but the town was flooded with people and there was nary a parking place in town. It was then we realized that this was a holiday long weekend. May 8 was VE day (Victory in Europe, WWI) and May 9 was Ascension Day, so everyone had vacation. After circling the town a couple of times, we gave up and headed for home.

We were fourth in line here waiting for a space to open up in a full parking lot when we gave up.

Which wasn't all bad since we could have aperos on the patio. We are truly lucky to be living the good life.

Cheers!
